Helping keep families together
As Christmas approaches it is a chastening thought that hundreds of children in the UK will be too unwell to leave hospital over the Christmas period. Not only this, the specialist care these children need is not always available close to home.
It is distressing to imagine your child being in hospital, never mind considering the stress and financial impact of travelling between home and hospital to be close to your sick child. A CLIC Sargent report on childhood cancer found that 61% of parents build up debt during their child’s cancer treatment. Meanwhile, a Bliss 2013 study found that premature babies spend an average of eight weeks in neonatal care with parents spending approximately £282 each week on food, travel, parking and accommodation.
That’s why Lime are proud to support Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC). Throughout the year we have provided event staff to support their fundraising events and 30 year anniversary celebrations.
For the last 30 years RMHC have supported families with free ‘home away from home’ accommodation next to children’s hospitals across the UK. On average, RMHC families would have to travel over 76 miles from home to hospital to visit their child if it wasn’t for a Ronald McDonald House! Families can stay for as long as they need to. The longest a family has stayed in a Ronald McDonald House is 552 days!
